Jupiler Launches Limited-Edition Apple Summer Beer

Belgian beer giant AB InBev has introduced Jupiler Apple, a limited-edition summer variant of its flagship Jupiler pilsner, now available in Belgian supermarkets from mid-May 2026 while stocks last. The new apple-flavored beer is brewed in Belgium and exclusively intended for the domestic market, marking a strategic move to capture younger consumers seeking refreshing seasonal options.

A Familiar Taste with a Fruity Twist

Jupiler Apple maintains the classic 5.2% ABV of the original pilsner, distinguishing it from its US inspiration, Busch Light Apple, which has a lower 4.1% ABV. According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the apple variant is slightly more caloric than the classic Jupiler. The beer is available in supermarkets from mid-May while stocks last.

AB InBev describes the flavor choice as “an accessible and recognizable taste,” deliberately opting for apple rather than the more common cherry or kriek flavor used by many competitors. The company is positioning the product to appeal to consumers in their twenties and thirties who are “looking for variety and new taste experiences.”

The launch comes as Belgian beer consumption has declined approximately 20% over the past decade, according to RetailDetail. In 2024, brewers sold 2.1% less beer in Belgium, though this was an improvement over 2023’s 6% drop. Brewers are increasingly investing in alcohol-free options and flavored innovations to counter the trend.

The initial production volume for Jupiler Apple represents approximately 10% of the Belgian flavored beer market for the spring-summer period, as Paris Match Belgique reported. This modest volume allows AB InBev to test demand without overcommitting resources, minimizing financial risk.

Inspired by US Success

Jupiler Apple draws inspiration from Busch Light Apple, a seasonal product launched in 2020 by Anheuser-Busch, AB InBev’s US subsidiary. According to La DH/Les Sports+, Busch Light Apple returned in limited quantities in 2021 and 2022 before being relaunched as a seasonal product in 2025 and 2026 due to persistent consumer demand.

AB InBev intends to make Jupiler Apple an annual seasonal product, contingent on the results of this spring and summer trial period.

A Mixed Track Record with Variants

Jupiler has a history of launching product variants with mixed success. Jupiler Blue (4% ABV), launched approximately 20 years ago, remains on the market with limited traction. The alcohol-free Jupiler 0.0 has been a success, meeting company expectations since replacing Jupiler NA in 2016.

However, other variants failed to gain traction. Jupiler Pure Blonde (3.1% ABV), launched in spring 2018 as a “light” pilsner, was quickly discontinued. Jupiler Force, a non-alcoholic malt beverage launched in 2011, and Tauro, a strong blonde beer from 2008, also failed to find an audience.

Broader Fruit Beer Strategy

Alongside Jupiler Apple, AB InBev is also bringing South African beer Flying Fish, which has a pressed lemon aroma, to Belgian supermarkets. This dual launch suggests a broader strategy to capture the growing fruit beer market from multiple angles, targeting younger consumers who increasingly favor fruity and flavored options.

What to Watch For

The success of Jupiler Apple will depend on whether Belgian consumers, known for their traditional beer culture, embrace a flavored variant of the country’s most popular pilsner. The limited-edition approach allows AB InBev to gauge demand with minimal risk. If the product performs well this summer, Belgians can expect Jupiler Apple to return as an annual seasonal offering.

Questions remain about whether the beer will be available in the hospitality sector beyond supermarkets, and how it will be priced compared to the classic Jupiler. The results of this spring and summer trial will determine whether Jupiler Apple becomes a permanent fixture in the Belgian beer calendar.
