Trump Administration Set to Release Second Batch of UFOs

The Trump administration is preparing to release a second wave of declassified Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) files, following the historic initial tranche released on May 8, 2026, as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE) program. Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell announced on May 19 that the documents are “actively being processed for publication,” with “more to come very soon,” according to Fox News.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), a prominent advocate for UFO disclosure, has dramatically raised expectations for the upcoming release. “The 1st drop will be big but in comparison to what is coming they will be a drop in the bucket,” Burchett posted on X. “I would say ‘Holy Crap’ is coming.”

The First Release: A Historic Transparency Push

On May 8, the Pentagon launched the PURSUE portal at WAR.GOV/UFO, releasing more than 160 files containing military reports, witness interviews, pilot accounts, government memos, photographs, and 20 videos related to UAP sightings dating from 1944 to the present day. The Associated Press reported that the files include old State Department cables, FBI documents, and transcripts from NASA of crewed flights into space.

The release was the result of a multi-agency transparency initiative involving the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, NASA, the FBI, and other federal agencies. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the goal was to provide “maximum transparency,” while Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard described a “comprehensive” declassification program, as Military.com reported.

Among the most compelling materials were Apollo mission transcripts showing astronauts describing unexplained phenomena. Apollo 17 operators reported seeing “very bright particles or fragments” drifting by their window, with one operator exclaiming, “It looks like the Fourth of July out of Ron’s window.” The Wikipedia entry on the files notes that the Pentagon described the materials as “unresolved cases” for which the government could not make a definitive determination.

What the Second Batch May Contain

According to Reuters, the next tranche is expected approximately 30 days after the first release, placing the target date around June 8, 2026. While no specific contents have been confirmed, Burchett’s enthusiastic tease has fueled intense speculation across social media and news outlets.

President Trump has further stoked public interest by sharing AI-generated images of himself walking alongside a handcuffed alien and piloting a spaceship. The president previously directed federal agencies in February 2026 to identify and declassify records connected to UFOs and extraterrestrials, writing on Truth Social: “I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life.”

Skepticism and Caution

Despite the public excitement, scientists and skeptics have urged caution. Sean Kirkpatrick, a physicist and former director of the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), warned that “readers should not get their hopes up that there’s going to be some document with photos, interviewing the aliens when they came down. Because that just doesn’t exist.”

Astrophysicist David Whitehouse reviewed the first batch of materials and concluded that “some are optical artefacts, others fuzzy blobs, and some light smears. Some obviously balloons. No hint, no evidence whatsoever of anything artificial and alien.” The Pentagon has consistently stated that the released materials do not confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life.

Political Dimensions

The UFO release fits into a broader political narrative. Critics, including some commentators, have argued that the releases serve as a distraction from other administration controversies. The Associated Press noted that Trump has previously released records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. — releases that revealed little beyond what was already known.

What to Watch For

As the June 2026 target date approaches, the key questions remain: What specific content will the second batch contain? Will it include evidence that shifts the debate? And how will the public — nearly half of whom already believe aliens have visited Earth, according to a YouGov poll — react to whatever is revealed?

For now, the administration has promised continued transparency. As Sean Parnell stated, the documents are being processed, and there will be “more to come very soon.” Whether the second batch lives up to Burchett’s “Holy Crap” billing remains to be seen.
