KMSKA Hosts 14,000 Fans for Amelie Lens Open-Air Techno Show
The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) will transform into a massive open-air concert venue on September 5, 2026, as world-renowned techno DJ Amelie Lens performs a three-hour set for 14,000 spectators in her hometown. The event, organized by the team behind the WECANDANCE festival, marks the largest ever held at the iconic museum plaza and coincides with the release of Lens’s debut studio album, AURA.
A Dream Come True for Antwerp’s Techno Queen
For Amelie Lens, the concert represents a career milestone. “It’s really a dream come true that we get to do this at one of the most iconic spots in the city,” she told VRT NWS. “The KMSKA is not only a beautiful building, it’s also my favorite museum. I can completely relax there and enjoy various artworks, like those of Salvador Dalí.”
The Antwerp native, ranked #38 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs in 2025, will deliver a day-long experience spanning nine hours. While Lens herself will play a three-hour DJ set, other DJs will fill the remaining time. When evening falls, the KMSKA building itself will serve as the backdrop for a spectacular video show.
“A day full of techno and energy, from beginning to end,” Lens said, adding that she looks forward to “welcoming all my fans to this magical place in Antwerp.”
A Blend of High Culture and Electronic Music
The event represents a notable convergence of high culture and contemporary electronic music — a trend increasingly seen across European cultural institutions. The KMSKA, one of Belgium’s most prestigious art museums housing seven centuries of work from Flemish Primitives to Expressionists, reopened in September 2022 after an 11-year, €100 million renovation. Since then, it has welcomed its 2 millionth visitor, as VRT NWS reported, cementing its status as a cultural powerhouse.
Mayor of Antwerp Els van Doesburg (N-VA) expressed strong support for the event. “As a city, we are proud of the beautifully renovated museum and very proud of our own techno legend Amelie Lens,” she said, as reported by HLN. “The combination of Amelie’s show with the KMSKA as the backdrop for her performance is a combination we’ve secretly dreamed of for a long time.”
Debut Album AURA Drops the Day Before
The concert is timed to celebrate the release of Lens’s debut studio album, AURA, which drops on September 4 — just one day before the event. According to Clash Magazine, the 11-track album will be released via her own EXHALE imprint on digital and gatefold double 12” blue/white vinyl. The lead single “Our Frequency” has already been released, offering fans a taste of what the Belgian producer describes as her most personal work yet.
“We’ll be celebrating two things: my long career and also the release of my debut album AURA,” Lens said.
Event Details and Logistics
Tickets for the nine-hour event range from €39 to €59, with the concert organized by ‘Chaos in the City,’ the team behind the popular WECANDANCE festival in Zeebrugge. The scale of the event requires significant city coordination: bus and tram lines on the Leopold De Waelstraat side of the museum will be partially suspended or diverted on the day of the concert.
The event marks the first time the KMSKA plaza has been opened for an event of this magnitude, signaling a progressive approach to museum programming that uses the iconic 19th-century building itself as a cultural canvas.
What to Watch For
With 14,000 attendees and a price point that makes it accessible to a wide audience, the event represents a significant economic injection for Antwerp’s hospitality and tourism sectors. Outstanding questions remain about which other DJs will perform during the nine-hour event and whether this will become an annual tradition. For Lens, who rose from a DJ residency at Hasselt’s Labyrinth Club in 2013 to global headliner status, the KMSKA concert is both a homecoming and a celebration of a decade-long journey that has made her one of Belgium’s most successful musical exports.
