Pedestrian Critically Injured by Tram in Schaerbeek
A pedestrian is fighting for their life after being struck by a tram on Saturday evening at Liedtsplein in Schaerbeek, Brussels. Emergency services rushed the victim to hospital in critical condition, according to VRT NWS.

The collision occurred at approximately 23:20 local time on June 13 at Liedtsplein, a major transport hub in the densely populated Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek. A MUG (Medical Emergency Team) and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene, with two additional ambulances called in to assist.
“The person who ended up under the tram was taken to hospital in a concerning condition under MUG supervision,” said Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels Fire Brigade, as reported by HLN.
Victims and Response
The tram driver and a witness were also taken to hospital, both suffering from shock. The victim remains in life-threatening condition, according to Katlien Breugelmans, spokesperson for Police Zone Brussels-Noord.
“The victim is still in life-threatening condition,” Breugelmans told HLN. “An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.”

Police Zone Brussels-Noord has opened an investigation into the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding the collision remain unknown, including whether the pedestrian was in a designated crossing area and what tram line was involved. One source, the Polish-language outlet Aktualnosci.be, identified the vehicle as tram line 25, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Liedtsplein serves as an intersection for multiple tram lines operated by STIB/MIVB, Brussels’ public transport company. The incident comes just three months after another pedestrian was critically injured by a tram in Schaerbeek at the Paul Brien stop in March 2026, as reported by The Brussels Times.
Authorities have not yet announced any safety review or changes to the Liedtsplein tram crossing. The investigation continues.
