Bpost now delivers missed packages same-day to Bbox lockers
Belgian postal service Bpost, through its parent company Bnode, has launched a new service allowing customers to redirect missed home deliveries for same-day pickup at nearby Bbox parcel machines. The announcement, made on 29 July 2026, marks a significant upgrade to Belgium’s largest parcel locker network, which now comprises more than 2,800 automated lockers nationwide.
Context
Previously, packages that could not be delivered to a recipient’s home were sent to a collection point — typically a post office or pickup location — and were only available the following day. This created a minimum 24-hour delay for customers, a common frustration in an era of fast e-commerce. According to Bnode’s official press release, the new system allows postal workers to place eligible parcels in a nearby Bbox after completing their delivery rounds, with recipients notified immediately via email or the My Bpost app.
Bpost, Belgium’s leading postal operator, delivers approximately 660,000 parcels per day. The company has been investing heavily in automation and convenience, including the rollout of emission-free delivery zones and partnerships with major retailers like Spar Colruyt Group and Albert Heijn to place Bboxen at retail locations.
How it works
The same-day redelivery service is subject to five conditions, all of which must be met:
- A Bbox must be located on the postal worker’s delivery route
- Available space must exist in the Bbox
- The package dimensions must fit in the locker
- The package must not require a customer signature or payment on collection
- A customer email address must be linked to the package
If the recipient has previously selected “delivery to neighbour” or “safe place” preferences in the Bpost app or website, those options are prioritized before the Bbox alternative is triggered.
Het Laatste Nieuws, which first reported the story via the Belga news agency, noted that the service is being rolled out nationwide immediately.
Trial results and customer response
During a pilot phase of the new delivery method, 43% of customers collected their order the same day from the Bbox. For many, this meant having their package in hand just hours after a missed home delivery attempt. Customer satisfaction, measured by Net Promoter Score (NPS), rose significantly among participating customers, according to the Bnode press release.
“When home delivery fails, the postal worker can deliver the package after his round to a nearby Bbox. The recipient is then notified via email or via the app and can immediately pick up their package,” Bnode stated in the announcement.
The Brussels Times reported that the service is part of Bpost’s broader strategy to modernize its delivery infrastructure and respond to growing demand for flexible e-commerce logistics.

Analysis and implications
This initiative represents a strategic move by Bnode to maximize utilization of its extensive Bbox network while addressing one of the most persistent pain points in e-commerce: missed deliveries. The 43% same-day pickup rate during the trial suggests strong latent demand for faster collection options.
From a logistics perspective, the service reduces the cost and environmental impact of repeat delivery attempts. Instead of returning packages to a sorting center and dispatching them the next day, postal workers can complete the delivery cycle in a single round. This aligns with Bpost’s broader sustainability goals, including emission-free delivery in cities such as Waver and the West Coast region.
The conditions attached to the service — particularly the exclusion of packages requiring signatures or payment — mean it complements rather than replaces existing delivery options. However, the high customer satisfaction scores indicate that for eligible parcels, this represents a meaningful improvement in the user experience.
What’s next
The nationwide rollout starting 29 July 2026 positions Bpost ahead of many European postal operators in terms of locker-based convenience. With more than 2,800 Bboxen already in place and continuing expansion through retail partnerships, the company has the infrastructure to scale this service rapidly.
Questions remain about whether the service will eventually be extended to cover packages requiring signatures or on-site payment, and how the Bbox network will cope with increased demand. For now, Belgian online shoppers can expect a significantly faster path to their packages — provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
