Ronquières Festival 2.0: New Layout, Mapping, Thrills

The Ronquières Festival, set against the concrete giant of the Plan incliné in Braine-le-Comte, returns for its 14th edition from 7 to 9 August 2026 — and it is calling the reboot “Ronquières 2.0.” Organisers say they started from a blank page for the new format, which pairs a complete redesign of the site with nightly video mapping on the famous tower, a free death ride installed with the Belgian army, and an upgraded camping experience.

Nearly 75,000 visitors are expected over the three days on the Hainaut site, according to L’Avenir. The line-up features more than 40 artists, led by Macklemore, DJ Snake and Charlotte Cardin, alongside Belgian acts such as Oscar and the Wolf, Pommelien Thijs, Iliona and Hooverphonic.

A festival rebuilt from a blank page

Launched in 2012 at the Plan incliné de Ronquières, a 1960s inclined-plane boat lift on the Brussels–Charleroi Canal, the festival grew rapidly from roughly 5,000 to 25,000 visitors per day within a few editions. That pace of growth pushed the organisers to rethink the whole layout.

“We went from 5,000 to 25,000 festival-goers per day in a few editions,” co-organiser Jean-François Guillin told L’Avenir in June. “This time, we started from a blank page,” he said, as reported by L’Avenir.

The most visible change concerns the stages: the two concert spaces now sit side by side in one large central zone, so festival-goers can move between performances without crossing the entire site. Around that central space, organisers have placed a large food village, an animation zone and rest areas designed to improve visitor flow and comfort.

Thrills from the tower

The most talked-about addition is the death ride, a free zip-line that launches from about 30 metres up the Plan incliné tower, installed in collaboration with the Belgian army. Around 30 people per hour can take part, on a first-come, first-served basis, with campers given priority access before the festival opens each day.

The tower will also become a nightly spectacle: the Charleroi-based collective Dirty Monitor, returning ten years after its celebrated 2016 show, will project a roughly 30-minute video mapping each evening before the headliner. The collective said the goal is “to give the impression that the building lights up from the inside,” with organisers granting the team carte blanche.

Camping, meanwhile, becomes an extension of the festival itself. DJ wake-up sets, games, gifts and priority access to the death ride are on the programme, with campers expected from Thursday evening for a party at the Bâbord Club electro stage featuring DJs Maggy & Loli and Versa.

A strategic reboot after a difficult year

“Ronquières 2.0” is more than a rebranding exercise. The 13th edition in 2025 — which featured Will Smith among others — drew fewer than 60,000 people over the weekend and, for the first time in the festival’s history, ended in the red. The loss did not affect the 14th edition, co-organiser Gino Innocente said, but the overhaul reflects a clear strategic response.

Innocente also highlighted the reinforced electro programme, telling La Libre Belgique that the festival has “become a meeting point for clubbers,” with acts such as Giorgia Angiuli and house-music reference Felix Da Housecat on the bill.

The new positioning arrives during a crowded Belgian festival season. By using the Plan incliné itself — through Dirty Monitor’s mapping and the death ride from the tower — the organisers are banking on a distinctive visual identity and a strong social-media hook, while the side-by-side stages should ease logistics in the central zone. The main constraint is capacity: with around 30 riders per hour, demand for the zip-line is likely to outstrip supply.

The festival runs from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 August 2026. Whether attendance climbs back above the 60,000 mark of 2025 — and toward the organisers’ expectation of 75,000 — will be the clearest measure of the 2.0 gamble. Full schedules and practical information are available from DH Les Sports+, which has published the programme day by day.
