A serious fire broke out in an apartment building in Brecht, Belgium, on Sunday morning, forcing all residents to evacuate the premises. The smoke plume was visible from a great distance, prompting the fire department to rush to the scene for what was described as a fully developed fire. Fire crews from Brandweer Zone Rand, the fire assistance zone responsible for the area, responded with multiple units.

All Residents Accounted For

Despite the severity of the blaze, all residents present in the affected building managed to evacuate safely. Ben Van Gils, spokesperson for Politiezone Voorkempen, confirmed that no injuries were sustained. “Everyone was able to leave the building in time and no one sustained injuries,” Van Gils told VRT NWS.

The fire caused significant damage to the building, with authorities reporting that the structure suffered extensive destruction. “Both the ground floor and the 1st and 2nd floors are completely lost,” police zone Voorkempen stated. The flames also caused substantial damage to the roof of the building, which is located at the corner of Eikenlei and Beukenlei.
