Portland Shooting Kills 1, Injures 5 at House Party
An 18-year-old man was killed and five other people were injured in a mass shooting at a house party in Portland, Oregon’s Cully neighborhood early Sunday morning. The Portland Police Bureau said officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 3:33 a.m. in the 5800 block of Northeast Alberta Street, where a gathering of well over 100 people was taking place.

The Shooting
According to BNO News, officers arrived within 10 minutes of the first 911 calls and encountered a chaotic scene with hundreds of people fleeing the area. Two victims with gunshot wounds were found at the house, and officers provided trauma first aid—including applying a tourniquet to one victim—before paramedics transported them to hospitals. Four additional victims arrived at local hospitals via private vehicles.
The deceased victim, an 18-year-old man, was initially taken to Providence Portland Medical Center before being transferred to a Level I trauma center due to the severity of his injuries. He died despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff.
The five surviving victims include a 20-year-old man from Vancouver, Washington; a 21-year-old man from Portland; an 18-year-old woman from Gresham; a 15-year-old boy from Troutdale; and an 18-year-old man from Portland. Police said their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Investigation Underway
Police described the crime scene as massive, with evidence of gunfire stretching across three city blocks. Investigators have recovered more than 60 shell casings, and there is damage to vehicles from both gunfire and collisions. Sgt. Kevin Allen of the Portland Police Bureau said evidence indicates “shots fired in the dozens,” with rounds fired “over multiple blocks,” as reported by KVAL/KATU.
Allen told reporters that police were “comfortable saying that whatever happened originated at or around that house party was related to the event that was taking place there and then whatever happened continued away from the scene.”
The investigation has drawn a significant multi-agency response. All available Portland Police Bureau detectives were called in, along with the Enhanced Community Safety Team, the Forensic Evidence Division, and the Traffic Division, which deployed drone-based overhead mapping to document the scene. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office also responded.
No arrests have been made, and police have not released descriptions of the suspect or suspects, who fled the scene.
Earlier Police Response
Police revealed that officers had been called to the same house earlier that night in response to a noise complaint about a large gathering. Chief Bob Day said attendees were cooperative and many left voluntarily. When officers departed at approximately 12:38 a.m., about a dozen people remained and the situation had “quieted down,” according to KPTV/FOX 12. The shooting occurred roughly three hours later.
The Portland Tribune reported that the scope of the investigation prompted PPB to call in every available detective, and investigators are working to determine what sparked the shooting and identify those responsible.
Broader Context
This shooting marks the second mass shooting in Oregon in 2026, according to data compiled by the Ceasefire Oregon Education Foundation. The first occurred on May 31 in Sandy, Oregon, where three people were killed and one injured. Since 2014, Oregon has experienced 31 mass shootings.
The incident comes amid a broader national pattern of gun violence. According to Wikipedia’s list of mass shootings in the United States in 2026, 273 people had been killed and 1,198 wounded in 281 shootings as of July 31. The Portland shooting occurred on the same weekend as a mass shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, which killed three people and injured seven.
Despite significant declines in gun violence in Portland in recent years—shootings resulting in homicides fell from 30 in 2022 to six in 2026 year-to-date, according to KPTV reporting—officials had warned that shootings were increasing as the city entered the summer season. The Cully neighborhood, one of Portland’s most diverse communities, has experienced recurring gun violence.
What’s Next
Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators and reference case number 26-224255. Detectives believe numerous people witnessed the incident before and during the shooting and have not yet spoken to police.
As the investigation continues, the shooting raises renewed questions about gun violence prevention in Portland and across the United States. The Xinhua News Agency reported the incident internationally, highlighting its significance beyond Oregon’s borders.
