2026 CIFTIS Opens in Beijing with Notable Debuts
The 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) is set to open September 9-13 at Shougang Park in Beijing, marking the first major national-level comprehensive service trade event of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period. Approximately 90 countries and international organizations will participate, with more than 1,800 enterprises exhibiting offline, including 456 Fortune Global 500 and leading industry companies, according to Xinhua News.
A Platform for High-Standard Opening Up
At a State Council Information Office press conference on August 28, Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong confirmed that preparations for the fair were largely complete. The event is structured around three core priorities: expanding opening up, deepening cooperation, and leading innovation.
“China sees greater opening-up as an important driver of trade in services,” Yan said, as reported by CGTN. “A ‘China Services’ exhibition area will be set up at the heart of the thematic exhibition, showcasing innovative achievements from across the country.”
The fair will also feature the Global Trade in Services Summit, which will release the China Trade in Services Development Report, alongside nearly 100 specialized conferences and forums, according to gov.cn.
Notable First-Time Showcases
This year’s CIFTIS introduces several significant debuts. A dedicated China Services exhibition zone will appear for the first time in the central thematic area, highlighting innovative achievements and representative cases from across the country’s services trade sector.
Equally notable is the debut of the Going Global Service Enterprise Exhibition Area, which brings together over 30 enterprises offering services in finance, legal affairs, accounting, advertising, and human resources. Nearly 40 Going Global Service Promotion Roadshow sessions have been secured, providing one-stop solutions for Chinese businesses expanding overseas, as detailed by Asianet News.
The healthcare section will also feature a first-ever Future Medical Technology Industry Frontier Exhibition Area, showcasing eight precision medicine and cell therapy companies, according to Beijing News. The traditional Chinese medicine area will span approximately 2,000 square meters with 48 institutions participating.
Strong International Participation
Norway serves as this year’s Guest of Honor country, with plans for a 260-square-meter national pavilion showcasing achievements in marine industries, energy, healthcare, and digital services. The international participation underscores CIFTIS’s role as a bridge connecting global services markets.
“CIFTIS continues to build a platform that connects global services markets and advances high-standard opening up,” said Zhang Mingyi, Managing Partner of EY North China, as reported by Huanqiu.
Beijing Vice Mayor Tang Wenhong highlighted three areas of quality improvement for this year’s fair: broader international participation, more prominent professionalism, and more significant driving effects.
Services Trade Momentum
China’s services trade has shown robust growth entering the fair. In the first half of 2026, total services imports and exports reached 3.78 trillion yuan (approximately $556 billion), up 8.3 percent year-on-year, according to CCTV. Knowledge-intensive services exports grew 12.8 percent to reach 805.67 billion yuan, representing 53.5 percent of total services exports.
The fair comes at a strategic moment for China’s services trade sector. As China Daily Brief notes, Beijing is leveraging national trade fairs to promote digitalization, green development, and specialized services, seeking to shift the country’s export profile further up the global value chain.
Innovation at the Forefront
Over 180 innovations will be released by companies including Alibaba and Schneider Electric across fields such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, and green and low-carbon development. More than 90 companies and institutions will debut new products and research findings during the fair.
The permanent CIFTIS venue at Shougang Park, completed on August 9, 2026, covers 144,600 square meters and represents a transformation of the former steel mill site into a modern Convention and Exhibition Town. The venue preserves industrial heritage landmarks while integrating smart technology for an enhanced visitor experience.
