Henggang High-Speed Railway Enters Joint Commissioning and Testing
The Henggang High-Speed Railway, a key infrastructure project connecting Hengshui City with Huanghua Port in China’s Hebei Province, has officially entered its joint commissioning and testing phase. On August 29, test train 55466 departed from Cangzhou West Station, marking the beginning of a planned 70-day comprehensive testing period that brings the line one step closer to its operational launch, according to Xinhua News Agency.
A Critical Milestone
The joint commissioning and testing phase is one of the most critical stages in high-speed rail development, serving as a comprehensive “health check” of the entire line before passenger service begins. An official from the Science and Technology Department of China Railway Beijing Group explained that the testing will evaluate traction power supply, overhead contact lines, communications, signaling, customer service systems, and disaster monitoring systems. The process will also verify the structural integrity of tracks, turnouts, roadbeds, and bridges, while assessing comprehensive grounding and electromagnetic environment compliance.
According to People’s Daily, the testing employs professional inspection trains, comprehensive inspection trains, test EMUs, and specialized detection equipment to conduct thorough evaluations of the line’s systems and infrastructure.
The Railway at a Glance
The Henggang High-Speed Railway spans 224 kilometers of newly constructed main line, with a design speed of 250 km/h. The route connects Hengshui North Station, Cangzhou West Station, and Huanghua Port Station, among others, serving as a vital east-west corridor across central Hebei Province.
The project is part of the larger Shijiazhuang-Hengshui-Cangzhou-Huanghua Port intercity railway network, which forms a key component of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei city cluster’s “four vertical, four horizontal, one ring” intercity railway network. The full line extends 333.8 kilometers from Shijiazhuang to the Bohai New Area, with the Hengshui-Huanghua Port section representing the newly constructed portion.
Strategic Significance
The railway’s importance extends far beyond passenger convenience. As China Railway Group noted, the line is “an important corridor for improving the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional railway network.” It provides seamless connectivity between inland cities and Huanghua Port, a major port on the Bohai Sea coast, enabling efficient “inland high-speed rail + port logistics” integration.
Once operational, the railway will significantly reduce travel time from Cangzhou and Huanghua Port to Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital. This enhanced connectivity is expected to boost economic development along the route and support the Bohai New Area’s industrial growth.
The line’s strategic connections are equally important. At Hengshui North Station, it links with the Shijiazhuang-Jinan passenger line, while at Cangzhou West Station, it connects with the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway. This creates a comprehensive east-west and north-south high-speed rail network across the region.
A Journey of Construction Challenges
Construction of the Henggang High-Speed Railway began in July 2020, and the project has overcome significant engineering challenges along the way. As Hebei TV reported, the project team navigated complex issues including three-power and pipeline relocations, construction adjacent to existing operating lines, and complex hub connection conditions.
A notable engineering achievement came in June 2026 when the second set of No. 42 turnouts was precisely connected to the Shijiazhuang-Jinan passenger line’s up-track. As China News Service reported, this interconnection marked a crucial step toward the line’s scheduled opening. The 157.2-meter-long, 252-ton turnouts were installed using automated lateral movement systems, achieving zero-error installation precision.
The project also completed its longest continuous beam—a 128-meter span at Liujiacun crossing the Daguang Expressway—and successfully executed bridge rotation operations for crossing existing railway lines.
Preparation and Readiness
Extensive preparation has accompanied the testing phase. The Shijiazhuang Electric Locomotive Depot conducted comprehensive special training for 87 staff members involved in the commissioning and testing, ensuring personnel were fully qualified for the task. The Cangzhou Train Depot strengthened personnel training with rigorous assessments for emergency duty staff, while the Hengshui Track Maintenance Section conducted special inspections of track, turnouts, and bridges.
The line has already successfully completed static acceptance and hot-rolling tests, with all facilities and equipment operating stably, meeting the conditions required to begin joint commissioning and testing.
What’s Next
With the 70-day testing period now underway, the Henggang High-Speed Railway is on track for its expected operational launch by the end of 2026. Local reports indicate the line could open to passengers before year-end, marking the culmination of more than six years of planning and construction.
The successful completion of joint commissioning and testing will not only deliver a new transportation artery for Hebei Province but also strengthen the broader Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration strategy. For residents of Hengshui, Cangzhou, and the surrounding regions, the railway promises dramatically improved access to both the provincial capital and the coastal port, while supporting the region’s economic transformation and development.
