China Launches 2026-27 Military Officer Recruitment Drive

The Political Work Department of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) has officially launched the 2026-2027 direct selection and recruitment process for military and police officers, according to Xinhua News Agency. Online registration will open from September 18 to 30, 2026, through the official Military Talent Network at 81rc.81.cn or www.81rc.mil.cn. A supplementary registration period for vacant positions is scheduled for October 28-30, 2026.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, the selection process includes online registration, qualification screening, physical examinations, political assessments, in-depth investigation, professional evaluation, and final approval and reporting.

The Army, Navy, and CMC Logistics Support Department have already published detailed branch-specific recruitment announcements on the Military Talent Network. The Navy announcement outlines positions across naval units, academies, and research institutions, covering command management, technical specialties, logistics support, and teaching and research roles. Eligibility requirements across branches include full-time bachelor’s degrees or higher obtained within the prescribed academic period, with age limits of 24 for bachelor’s degree holders, 29 for master’s degree holders, and 34 for doctoral degree holders. Age may be relaxed by one year for urgently needed doctoral candidates, ethnic minorities, and those with prior military service. The recruitment program operates under the framework established by the “Regulations on the Management of Active-Duty Officers” and its supporting regulations, approved by CMC Chairman Xi Jinping and effective from January 1, 2021. Officer ranks upon entry follow a standardized structure: bachelor’s degree holders are commissioned as second lieutenants, master’s degree holders as first lieutenants, and doctoral degree holders as captains, with corresponding treatment levels.
